We are in the midst of challenging times as a result of COVID-19. Women on the Rise had to make some tough decisions. We believe that we should all focus on keeping our friends and families safe and as a result on March 13th, we suspended our services until April 13th.
We realize this will be difficult for some of the participants in our programs, and we are working diligently to reach each participant to let them know we are here to support them. We have postponed our Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser. This was hard for us to do as we look forward to the community support and the time spent with all of you that come out to our events, but necessary to
contribute to keeping everyone safe.
Here is what we are doing for our participants. Women on the Rise will enhance our Outreach Program. Every participant will be contacted by phone and encouraged to participate in what we are offering.
Zoom/Conference Call Chat Time. An opportunity for our participants to stay connected to our Parent Animator. Our Chat Time sessions will consist of emotional and alternative resource solutions for participants struggling with isolation and despair as a result of COVID -19. We will also focus on ensuring that they have the most current information as this situation is fluid and changing every day.
A weekly calendar filled with coping tips and activities that participants and their families can get involved in for their emotional and mental health Messaging from our Nutrition Counts Program that consists of just in time tips and recipes for low cost and readily available meals to feed families. Engagement activity that participants can get involved in so as not to regress as so many of them have made gains in our programs.
Women on the Rise is committed to the well-being of our participants and will work tirelessly to ensure that amidst the current limitations, we are still focused on the importance of our services to the NDG
We appreciate all of you, particularly those of you who are still out there working to support our communities. We wish you and your families the best in these trying times.
Stay safe and God bless.

Board of Directors
WOR Annual General Meeting
"Women on the Rise held our AGM on June 18th at St Thomas Church and were happy to see so many residents and mothers come out. Chaired by Renate Betts of Westhaven Centre, the AGM proved to be very productive, with the passing of the activity report, financial statements, and review of the upcoming year budget.
The Board of Directors election was exciting, with 8 candidates running for 4 positions. The team would like to thank all of the outgoing volunteers and those who ran for the election this year. We encourage you to stay in touch!
The new Board members elected are: Jing Bai, Nikki Mike, Catherine Oliver and Dina Souleiman. Highlights of the AGM include several heartfelt testimonials from mothers at Women on the Rise, including from Naomi who shared that she has enjoyed being a participant so much that she wanted to give back. She received a grant from Tenaquip to run an Art Therapy project at Women on the Rise which has been a hit with the moms.
As we look ahead to the 2019-2020 year, we have set an ambitious goal of $55,000 for fundraising on a budget of $175,500. We look to our community for support in making this year a success!
