Frequently Asked Questions:

Who can become a member?

All women and individuals of other marginalized genders who participate in Women on the Rise’s programs and/or services are welcome to become a member.

What is the cost?

It is free to become a participant member of WOR.

Is it mandatory to be a member to get support from WOR? No, WOR is dedicated to supporting everyone, and this will never be conditional based on membership status.

Responsibilities of members:

  • Commit to upholding our Respect Policy and ensure that WOR remains a safe space for all.

  • Register for activities in advance and respond to staff communications if we request a reply.

  • Let us know if there are significant changes to your needs, family composition, or contact information.

  • Show up on time and call ahead if you are running late or need to cancel.

  • Share your feedback, attend our AGM (this is encouraged but not required) and find other ways to contribute your ideas

  • Understand that resources are limited, and membership does not guarantee access to material items or other subsidies

If you support the mission of Women on the Rise, but do not participate directly in our activities, you are still welcome to join us as an Associate member!  Associate members do not have voting rights, but can get involved in our organization in other ways, such as volunteering, collaborating on activities, making donations, and more!  Associate members can request to receive regular updates from our team, and we value the ideas and feedback of all associate members!

You can become a member at any time.  Note that our membership renewal happens every year in April and May.

Material Donations

distro room requests (1).png

Women on the Rise operates a fabulous, free boutique which we call 'The Distro Room'.  This service is volunteer-run and open to all.

Please consider donating your gently-used clothes, shoes, and outerwear for babies, kids, and women.  Cribs, strollers, pack & plays, and other supplies for young children are always appreciated!

To address our mandate of encouraging accessibility and breaking down barriers of isolation, we are now accepting donations of tech devices like phones, tablets, and laptops that will be distributed on a needs-based priority system.

Donations can be made during regular office hours.  Please call ahead to confirm your delivery.  Thank you!

Volunteering with Women on the Rise is a great way to make a difference in your community. We are always grateful for folks to help us with:

  • Greeting visitors and inviting them to join our programs and events

  • Sorting and organizing our clothing donations

  • Translating documents from English to French and other languages

  • Light administrative duties in our office

  • Lending your expertise to our programming- if you have an idea for a workshop, please let us know!

  • Helping to plan our events and fundraisers
