Free boutique permanently closed at Women on the Rise

It is with great sadness that we announce the permanent closure of our free boutique, the Distro Room. Due to circumstances beyond our control, our centre on Somerled Avenue cannot receive material donations, volunteers, or visitors. After several years of dynamic exchanges, we thank everyone who donated, organized, and "shopped" in the Distro Room to make it the lively space that it was. The Distro Room served as a first point of contact with Women on the Rise for many women in the community, whether they needed clothing for their families, had items to donate, or wanted to give back by volunteering their time. As such, it fulfilled multiple needs in the community, both material and social.
Nevertheless, our other programs continue to run: the Stronger Together support group for abuse survivors, the Postpartum Mental Health support group for pregnant and postpartum moms, the Release and Bloom support group for disabled women who have survived gender-based violence, and twice-yearly cohorts of the Coeurage program for reproductive loss. We also continue to offer our Tuesday and Thursday afternoon gatherings in an alternate location: the Walkley Centre at 6650 Cote St Luc Road.
