The Yellow Door Choir with Director Roxanne Martel invite you to explore From Poetry to Song. Spanning five centuries and six languages, they will sing poems that modern composers and arrangers have reimagined for multiple voices singing in harmony.
Renaissance Italy’s Tasso’s Io Son la Primavera is amplified into a 10-voice celebration of Spring. Swedish composer Karlsson’s Gøta, inspired by traditional music from the Faroe Islands, is blended into six voices singing the folk tune over jazz beats.
Love poems range from German poet Rilke’s En une Seule Fleur to the Galician RosalÌa de Castro’s despairing Cada Noite. Canadian musician Srul Irving Glick and poet Donia Clenman portray our wild landscapes in Northern Sketches, and Gordon Lightfoot evokes the warmth of Spring in Pussy Willows, Cat-tails.
It’s all a rich blend of universal themes and creative inventions: the promise of new love and sorrow at its loss, the wonders of nature changing like our lives through the seasons, and the power of wild tempests and the sea.
During intermissions at both concerts, volunteers will supply goodies in a bake sale, and all proceeds go directly to Women on The Rise to help support our community services. So please skip your dessert and donate generously. ;)
It’s a date: Friday May 30 and Saturday May 31 at 7:30 PM
